The PLA can be used for compost, so it is an ideal environmental packaging for food and other consumer products. However, compared with traditional plastics, polylactic acid products have poor performance, which will bring obstacles to industrial application. Changing consumer preferences and increased demand for personal care are expected to improve the use of lactic acid in skin care. The global polylactic acid market will be worth $2bn by 2020, according to a new report by Grand View Research, an international consultancy.
